Dubai–With residents eagerly awaiting the launch of the Dubai Metro, Dubai’s biggest infrastructure project, Flip Media today unveiled Mydubaimetro.com, a non profit portal designed and developed to provide residents of Dubai with a practical and usable guide to all things related to the Metro.
The one stop shop website offers key information and helpful tools such as a journey planner and fare calculator, information about each station stop as well as downloadable pocket maps.
“We saw a gap in the market where people, including ourselves, were curious and hungry for more information about the Metro,” said Yousef Tuqan Tuqan, CEO, Flip Media.
Dinesh Lalvani, Managing Partner of Flip added, “We’re bringing the best of web and technology to help people discover not only the basic information about the services available, but also help connect with fellow commuters. The idea is to make the metro not just about the destination but also about the journey and experience.”
The community portal gives users to post comments, blog and share photos and useful tips about the metro. The website is scalable, allowing for the addition of new technology and tools.
I am very proud of this, as one of developers of this website and the Technology behind it, The Navisite CMS .

UAE Linux user meetup (@uaelug on twitter), was very interesting yesterday. About 20 Linux Enthusiasts were present on the meetup. It was an open discussion session after an Ubuntu linux installation workshop for newbies. Some interesting talks with new linux users and experts gave lot of amazing information about linux.
Meetup started with number of new guys introducing themselves. It was fun and some “jokes are thrown on the table” . @tarekkassar was live tweeting from the meetup. ” If you love open-source, join #uaelug, all people here will be your friends ” – he said on twitter.
After the meetup it was very clear to everyone that why we use linux and what is the importance of this Operating system. Some topics we discussed was about how you use a computer in its maximum possible ways, that cannot be achieved using propitiatory systems. It explained how to make computer to do more stuff than, just following some ready made “products”. Experts explained how we take challenges and do understand how software really works.

I was there at Facebook Developer Garage Dubai event yesterday. It was at Conference Centre, Dubai Knowledge Village. Lot of facebook developers and marketing personalities came to attend. We all got event T-shirts, Tea and light refreshments.
There is 3 main sections. The first section was from Facebookster , a leading social media developers. They showed how a facebook application can really make money in huge margins. They explained how to make applications successfully and to market them to get more users on it. It was really interesting, when they show how games can be used to publicize your brand on Facebook. as example they shown the Mafia Wars game on Facebook. Virtual money, viral loop, funnel design, viral hooks these are some of the topics they discussed. The statistics about the money gained by certain applications and the way “value of an application” related to users on it, etc amazed us.
Second section was from Flip Media . Shuja Shabandri explained the Flip’s success stories in Facebook application developments, Facebook and social media integration inside Flip’s CMS etc. He talked how to develop Facebook applications, and platforms to use. The fun part was the live demonstration of a “Portfolio” Facebook application development. After setting up demo hostings and creating the application settings in the Facebook, he opened the text editor and typed the code to show us how to create a real Facebook application quickly as a WordPress extension.
Third section was from Microsoft. Anton Delsink, Developer Tools Specialist Microsoft, talked on “Microsoft & Facebook – better together”. He shown the Microsoft technologies like Silverlight, Photosynth etc. Explained how Silverlight can be used for Facebook applications with .NET technologies. He talked about VisualSage, Popfly etc. Popfly seems somethings like Yahoo Pipes, but only for Facebook with Silverlight. On his talk he always remembered about the new Microsoft technologies like Windows 7 desktop zooming, new .NET IDE, SQL server, virtalization etc etc, and it explained how Microsoft is trying to get some users for them anyhow on these technologies. During his conversation he showed Facebook application for Windows mobile. There was no one in the attenders who seen it or used it.
